EFFECTIVENESS OF KERATOS HH

When Keratos HH was added to cosmetic products through a basic formulation, it provided the following benefits, according to studies carried out by the Kosmoscience Group:

  1. Hair: 63% more restructuring, less pores, 40% more strength and 65% less breakage.
  2. Skin: 70% more hydration and improves significantly firmness and elasticity.

HAIR

1. RESTRUCTURING POTENTIAL

Product evaluated: Keratos HH added to HAIR SPRAY
A study carried out using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), combined with image analysis, showed that locks of hair submitted to treatment with Keratos HH showed surface damage reduction (DR) when compared to the control group. Figure 1 shows micrographs of hair strands obtained for the control group and the group treated with Keratos HH, where flattening of the cuticle edges and the removal of fragments can be observed.

Based on the micrographs, image analysis was carried out in order to measure the pore area of the hair strand surface. The locks of hair submitted to the treatment with Keratos HH showed small pore area compared with the samples of the control group, as seen in Figure 2.

This reduction reached 63% in comparison with the hair samples of the control group. The treatment of locks of hair with Keratos HH showed efficacy in decreasing the size of the pores and the filling of pores, leading to the reconstruction of the strands.

2.MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF HAIR FIBERS

Product evaluated: Keratos HH added to HAIR SPRAY

The chemical and physical properties of hair are determined in the research and development of new formulations since they are related to the form and state of the conservation of the strands. Tests showed that locks of hair submitted to the treatment with Keratos HH had a 5% increase in elasticity and were 40% stronger when compared to the control group.

3.OBJECTIVE EFFICACY IN TERMS OF HAIR SHINE

Product evaluated: KERATOS HH added to SHAMPOO

Hair shine is one of the most notable attributes of efficiency with regard to the formulation of cosmetic products. Keratos HH provided more shine to the clean and dry hair samples in comparison to the samples of the control group for the same test conditions in relation to their initial states. Locks of hair submitted to treatment with Keratos HH showed a 16% increase in shine. This was determined on a glossmeter, which measures the specular reflection, or shine, and this increases with a decrease in the diffuse reflection, that is, with an increase in the surface regularity.

4. ANTI-BREAK EFFICACY

Product evaluated: KERATOS HH added to SHAMPOO

Loss of elasticity leads to hair fatigue and breakage, which negatively affects the appearance, growth and cut. The breakage is intensified when the hair goes through very strong chemical processes, such as hair straightening or frequent color changes. Hair samples submitted to treatment with Keratos HH, after being combed 1500 times and submitted to 150 applications on a hair straightener with thermal plates, presented 65% less broken hair strands compared with the control treatment, as shown in Figure 3.

5 HAIR SALON TEST

Product evaluated: KERATOS HH added to SHAMPOO

Keratos HH was applied under normal conditions of use, simulating hair treatment in a hair salon, a method known as the ‘’hair salon test’’, carried out by the panel of participants. The sensorial analysis to determine the perceived efficacy was carried out by a hairdresser and the participants of the study in the stages of wet hair and after drying. The study on perceived efficacy through sensorial analysis by the participants resulted in the following perception for dry hair: more shine: 93%, hair more hydrated: 80%, more smoothness: 87%, easier to comb/untangle: 80% and more pleasant to touch:73%.80% e toque agradável: 73%.

SKIN

1. EVALUATION OF SKIN HYDRATION BY CORNEOMETER

Product tested: KERATOS HH added to MOISTURIZER CREAM

Well-moisturized skin is synonymous with healthy skin. The amino acids and the di, tri, tetra and penta peptides of Keratos HH, due to their small molecular sizes, relative hydrophobicity and similarity with the skin’s own amino acids are able to easily penetrate the epidermis, contributing to the hydration of the stratum corneum. In the efficacy testing of Keratos HH, in order to evaluate the skin hydration, it was verified that the product increased the level of skin hydration by up to 70.7%. It was also verified that 100% of the study participants showed improved skin hydration after applying the product. Average values of capacitance (h) for the products investigated and the control are given in Figure 4.

2. EVALUATION OF SKIN FIRMNESS AND ELASTICITY THROUGH CUTOMETRY AND PERCEIVED EFFICACY

Product tested: KERATOS HH added to MOISTURIZER CREAM

Keratos HH, used in the formulation of a moisturizer cream, resulted in an increase in firmness, in relation to the initial condition of the skin, after 28 days of home use. It was verified that 73% of the participants in the study presented an increase in the skin firmness after 28 days of home use of the product. There was also an increase in elasticity, in relation to the initial condition of the skin, after 28 days of home use. In addition, 67% of the participants showed an increase in the skin elasticity after 28 days of home use of the product.

NAILS

EVALUATION OF EFFECT ON NAIL STRENGTHENING

Product tested: KERATOS HH added to NAIL POLISH

Nail weakening is a common problem that may be associated with the constant use of chemical products, such as detergents and/or improper diet and it may result in brittle nails with peeling, irregularity, stains or a porous aspect, which can facilitate the development of fungus. Keratos HH was used in the formulation of a nail polish and cosmetic application to nails (Vitro-Nail® substrate) increased the strength required for their bending by 33%, as shown in Fig. 5.

The results of all tests carried out with Keratos HH in cosmetic formulations demonstrated its efficacy in providing desired attributes to hair, such as restructuring, reducing breakage, maintaining the strands moisturized and smooth, with good combability and with a pleasant touch. Keratos HH also provides hydration, firmness and elasticity to the skin besides strengthening nails.
